Red Stones & Lagunas
First we cross the Tambillo forest, followed by short stops at Toconao and Socaire, a stop at the Tropic of Capricorn for some explanations and then on to the Tuyajto viewpoint.
After lunch and a short walk, visit the Salar de Talar, a one-hour walk to see the famous Red Stones, flamingos and vicuñas.
On the way to the Miniques and Miscanti Lagoons, you’ll meet some guanacos and rheas, and with a bit of luck vizcachas and foxes.
You’ll come across an abundance of flora, with plants such as chachacoma and ricarica, and get to know the gold-colored “puna”, a rich source of food for highland animals.
On the way back, you’ll stop at the beautiful Miniques and Miscanti lagoons for photos. Once back down to salar level, you’ll finish the excursion with a visit to the Chaxa lagoon, home to numerous pink flamingos.
Return to San Pedro.
