CITY TOUR

The beauty of the city of Salta is undeniable, and the visit begins in the main square on 9 July.

The first is El Cabildo (Museo histórico del Norte), the city’s oldest colonial building, and the second is the Cathedral Church, which houses the images of the Lord and the Virgin of Miracles in memory of the 1692 earthquake that miraculously spared the city of Salta.

The church also houses the remains and ashes of several heroes, including Gral and Martin Miguel de Güemes.

Just two streets away is another architectural beauty: the San Francisco church, whose original construction dates back to 1625, although its current form dates from the late 18th century.

We continue on to one of the city’s most typical buildings, the San Bernardo convent, home to the cloistered monastery of the Discalced Carmelite nuns since 1846.

The route takes us to the foot of Cerro San Bernardo, where the monument to Gral and Martin Miguel de Güemes stands. We’ll climb to the top of this hill after 8 km of winding road.

From the top, we can enjoy views of the whole city.

We will also visit the Quebrada de San Lorenzo, 12 km from the capital, a summer village surrounded by a natural river.

Finally, we’ll visit the market where we’ll see the typical handicrafts of the different towns in the north
