Day 1 : Moon Valley (Vallecito) (morning)
Born during the Covid period, Vallecito is a lovely alternative to the traditional Valley of the Moon. The excursion lasts around 4 hours and is free of charge.
On the way to the Dinosaur, we stop at the Likanantaï viewpoint to admire this jagged geological formation, then cross the Valley of Patience to enter the Valley of the Moon through the back door of the Salt Cordillera, where we take a few walks to admire the striking relief of this fascinating corner of the desert.
A stop at the Magic Bus, a witness to the valley’s mining activity, is also an opportunity to visit part of the quarry and listen to the cracking rock !
We head for the Grande Dune, climb up and walk along the ridge to enjoy the spectacular view, then descend the Grande Dune back to the vehicle.
We pick up the trail again, skirting and crossing the salt river and gradually reaching the sandy areas, the relief gradually fading and we reach the Ayllu de Tulor, stop under a hundred-year-old Algarrobo facing the majestic Andes mountain range and have a snack.
Return to San Pedro.

Day 1 : Arcoiris Valley (afternoon)
Entering the Arcoiris Valley is like an ant venturing onto a painter’s palette.
Red, green, brown, yellow, white, grey… all illuminated by a deep blue sky.
Add to this the myriad of sparkling salt crystals and you can’t imagine a better recipe for giving this place a unique flavor.
Further on, it’s at Yerbas Buenas that we encounter “history”, that of the nomads who left traces of their passage engraved in the rock.
These petroglyphs are like an open book that your guide will be delighted to leaf through with you.
In Rio Grande, a village nestled at the bottom of an impressive canyon, built of clay and thatch (adobe), time passes slowly and quietly.
It’s a discreet immersion in pastoral life, with goat and llama herding, varied crops, water and abundant flora.
On the way back, your guide will serve you a delicious aperitif cocktail at sunset.

First we cross the Tambillo forest and stop off at Toconao, the square and campanile with their cactus wood structures, to discover some truly local craftsmanship ! Further on, a stop at the Tropic of Capricorn for a few explanations, for example, why are deserts located in the tropics ? Then on to Socaire, the last village before the Argentine border, where we enter the gold-coloured Puna, cross the Andean plateau to the Tujaito lagoon and stop off at the mirador.
We then return to the Salar de Talar, for an hour’s walk to the famous Red Stones. At the foot of the salar, you’ll be close to vicuñas.
On the way back, we head for the sumptuous Miniques and Miscanti Lagoons. Along the way, you’ll meet guanacos, rheas and, with a bit of luck, vizcachas and foxes.
You’ll encounter an abundance of flora, including cachiyuyo, chachacoma, ricarica and pingopingo…
After visiting the high-altitude lagoons, the descent takes us back down to the salar, ending with a visit to the Chaxa lagoon, home to numerous pink flamingos – a feast for the eyes!

The visit lasts about an hour and a half, after which we set off for a hearty breakfast at a place called les geysers blancs, where we can take a dip in the thermal waters of the rio (32 to 38° depending on the location).
On the way back, we stop at the Machuca bofedal to admire the guaiatas, vicuñas and flamingos.
