We will start our adventure very early in the morning, from San Pedro de Atacama. A 3-hour trip that will take us to the pleasant and quiet Lake Lejia (at 4350 meters above sea level); an impressive turquoise lagoon, where you will delight your palate with a gourmet breakfast in the presence of the wonderful flamingos.
After having taken energy, we will go to the base of the mountain (4.900 masl) to begin a 3 to 4 hrs ascent to the summit.
During the 3 km hike, you will discover impressive views of the Andes Mountains and will be able to admire the smoking volcanic chimney, observe the fumaroles and feel the intense smell of sulfur.
We will stop at the first crater to admire this giant hole. If the conditions of the group allow it, we will walk 40 more minutes to the top of the volcano, located at 5,594 meters above sea level.
The descent will take us about 1 hour, and then we drive back to San Pedro de Atacama.
Some basic trekking experience is necessary, as well as being healthy and fit. Ideally, you should have done several tours at altitude, to improve your acclimatization.
